Early in the morning, members of the municipal corporation, headed by the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the councillor for Equality, Angela Llorca, deployed from the balcony of the City Hall a commemorative banner of March 8. In this event, they were accompanied by representatives of women's groups such as the Association of Housewives and Patch-Benidorm Association.
The mayor indicated that throughout the year the City Hall "is constantly developing activities and working every day to achieve effective equality between men and women", but he acknowledged that "there is much to do ." Therefore, he assured, "we must give visibility to this struggle for equality" and work "closely with associations and groups of women" so that "every day is March 8".
Pérez highlighted the "vast program of events" that Benidorm has organized on the occasion of International Women's Day and have this March 8 as "central axis". Thus, at 19.00 hours, in the City Hall an institutional act will take place where Vicenta Pérez Bayoña read a manifesto. Then, at 19.30, María José García, from Infodona will give a lecture entitled: 'Uses and Abuses of the image of women in the media.' '
Previously, at 18.00 pm in the multipurpose room of the Municipal Library, the narrator, Inma Ruíz will read 'Cuentos para adultos contra la violencia de género'.
Apart from the events planned for today, on Friday March 11 at the Municipal Library it will be presented the conference 'No somos mujeres ni falta que nos hace' by the psychologist Olga Robles. The next day, the seminar 'Investigando a las mujeres de la historia', organized by the University of Alicante, at 10.00 hours in the center El Torrejó. Finally, as a finishing touch, at 11.00 am in the Palau d'Esports l'Illa de Benidorm is hosting a workshop of self-defense for women organized by Kick Boxing Benidorm Club.
