The work affects some 70 ceramic plaques that were somewhat damaged and whose image will now be unified with the city's coat of arms and official nomenclature
Benidorm begins the second phase of replacing street signs in the city center
Benidorm City Council's Department of Public Space has begun a new, second phase of replacing and installing the ceramic street map panels in the city centre. Specifically, this phase encompasses the areas around Avenida de l'Aigüera, Avenida Jaime I, and the Old Town, and involves the replacement of approximately 70 ceramic tiles on building facades.
The new tiles, according to the Councillor for Urban Scene, Francis Muñoz, "bear the city's coat of arms and the street name according to the official street map." This intervention is included in the investments planned for the urban furniture contract, which is being executed by the concessionaire Impursa.
The work, which has already begun, will last two weeks and will consist primarily of replacing ceramic plaques "that, due to obsolescence, breakage, or vandalism, were considerably deteriorated. These are being replaced with new ones that will help visitors and residents better navigate the town centre," Muñoz stated. The project also includes the removal of old plaques "to improve the beauty of our streets and contribute to the recovery of a very sensitive area of the municipality."
This phase will complete the replacement of the plaques throughout the town centre. However, the City Council will continue to intervene occasionally when any breakage or damage to the ceramics occurs.
Finally, Francis Muñoz emphasised that the street naming criteria have been "unified" with respect to what is dictated by the municipal register and in accordance with the guidelines of the National Institute of Statistics "to avoid confusion among residents and tourists." The objective of the project, which has concluded, is to "normalise street names and nomenclature."
