Benidorm inicia en la Ermita las fiestas de Sant Isidre que culminan el domingo con una Romería

Sant Isidre Festival Committee celebrated yesterday the big day of the patron saint of farmers with a mass and a 'picaeta', (snack), for festival-goers, collaborators and neighbours at the Hermitage of Sanç. In this way, the residents of La Huerta began one of the traditional celebrations that take place throughout the year in this neighbourhood of Benidorm, along with those of Sant Antoni, the Mare de Déu del Rosero or the Three Kings Parade.

The mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, participated in the mass in honour of Sant Isidre, which was officiated jointly by the parish priest José Luis Rodes and the priest Jaume Benaloy. Along with the first mayor, the Festival Councilor, Mariló Cebreros, and other members of the municipal Corporation also participated; the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, Valentina Almodóbar Climent and Laia Zamora Picó; the presidents of the Committee of Festes Majors Patronals and the Association of Penyes Verge del Sofratge, María Dolores Cano and Jaume Cortés; the president of Sant Isidre, Álvaro Olivar, as well as festival-goers from this commission, neighbours and representatives of other festive entities in La Huerta.

The celebrations for Sant Isidre will continue this Saturday afternoon, in the Plaza de la Ermita, with the decoration of the cars that will participate on Sunday in the traditional Pilgrimage.

On Sunday, the main day of the festivities will take place, which will begin first thing in the morning with the collection and transfer of the cars to Bilbao Avenue. From there, at 10 in the morning, the Sant Isidre Pilgrimage will depart, which will run along Levante Beach, Ametlla de Mar and Severo Ochoa to the Benidorm Palace, where participants will stop to regain their strength. Next, the pilgrimage will continue through Severo Ochoa and the Albir tourist road, ending at the Hermitage of Sanç. Once at the Hermitage, around 1:00 p.m., the traditional earthenware pitcher auction will take place and there will be a bar with drinks and food at popular prices and live music to liven up the celebration.
