The section between Paris and London streets, already underway, has been visited today by the mayor

Benidorm begins the first phase of the infrastructure renovation on Montecarlo avenue

10 February 2023
Avenida de Montecarlo

The first phase of the work to renew the drinking water and sanitation infrastructure on Avenida Montecarlo, in Rincón de Loix, is already underway. This first phase, which began last week, includes the section that runs between Paris and London streets, which is the one that presented the most problems in terms of hydraulic infrastructure, services, telecommunications, lighting, trees, and accessibility.

The works have been visited this morning by the mayor Toni Pérez, accompanied by the councilors for Public Space and Citizen Participation, José Ramón González de Zárate and Ana Pellicer, and the technicians responsible for the work. The global intervention involves acting in some 500 linear meters from Paris street to Berlin street and has a total budget of 1,119,211.31 euros.

The work schedule establishes that these will be carried out in three phases "in order to generate as little inconvenience as possible," explained Toni Pérez. It is, he said, "a performance that is highly demanded by the residents of Rincón de Loix and the one we most wanted to undertake." In fact, the mayor has indicated that it has started now "because due to the supply problems in recent months, we did not want to start without having all the material collected and available and the necessary machinery".

The work will involve the renovation of the drinking water, sewerage, rainwater, and regenerated water pipes. For that reason, "the pipes must be placed throughout the entire length of the work and this entails acting both on the road and on the sidewalks".

The works along the entire avenue, with the three planned phases, have a lead time of ten months. In addition to renovating the hydraulic infrastructures, the intervention will also act on lighting, with the installation of 23 'led' luminaires within the IDAE program.

Likewise, the roadway and sidewalks will be resurfaced with the formation of pedestrian lugs at the corners and crosswalk areas to improve the visibility of pedestrians at crossroads. The tree pits will also be renovated, new urban furniture will be installed, the vertical signage will be renewed and the street trees will be expanded.

As for the sidewalks, these "will be completely new and adapted to accessibility regulations", so that at the end of the work "we will have finished with accessibility problems thanks to the creation of ramps and zebra crossings" detailed the mayor. Within the project, it is also contemplated that the street has the character of a bicycle path and maintains the current number of parking spaces.

With regard to traffic, an attempt has been made not to make many modifications and to guarantee access to the fords depending on the development of the work.
