Benidorm asks for a subsidy to complete the commercial improvement of Los Almendros street
The project foresees trees until Elche Park, remove architectural barriers and implement a wifi network
Benidorm City Council has requested a grant to complete the commercial improvement of Los Almendros avenue started at the end of 2016 and that in a first phase was circumscribed to the section between Urano and San Antonio streets. The councilman of Works, José Ramón González de Zárate, explained that from the Department of Commerce has been processed to avail itself of the call launched by the Secretary of State for the Chambers of Commerce to channel such aid to municipalities, consortia or associations to modernize and improve trade in areas of high tourist influx.
De Zárate explained that this project, drafted by the municipal technicians, is intended "to make it much more pleasant to walk along Los Almendros avenue to encourage shopping in this street with a wide commercial tradition." To do this, it is planned to "plant trees every five meters across the avenue to reach Paseo de Colón", thus following the model already implanted in the high section of Los Almendros and "has been very well received."
The project also aims to "eliminate all architectural barriers to improve the accessibility and transit of people with functional diversity and pedestrians in general," creating lugs at intersections. In addition, to avoid cars parked on the sidewalks will continue to be inserted flexible and woody bollards.
Finally, the action raises "the installation of a Wi-Fi network", which enhances the influx to commercial establishments.
The action is valued at 136,840.28 euros and its execution is two months, so that if the subsidy is obtained, work could begin in September and the project "before the Patron Saint Festivities in November" would be completed.
Object of the calls
This call for assistance is focused on actions and projects to modernize and commercially revitalize urban environments in which are concentrated many establishments or areas of commercial tradition in which activity has declined.
