Benidorm asks the SPTCV all its potable water infrastructures of PEDUI in Terra Mítica

The councilman of Water Cycle, José Ramón González, will raise next Monday March 26 in the plenary session a proposal to ask the Society for Thematic Projects of the Valencian Community (SPTCV) to give the City Council all its hydraulic infrastructures located or linked to the potable water supply network of the PEDUI area (Special Master Plan for Uses and Infrastructures) of Terra Mítica.

The proposal, which has been issued today in an information commission, contemplates requesting the transfer of the water treatment plant, four tanks, five pumps, the drinking water distribution network, and the remote control and remote control of all the equipment. Some facilities managed by the City Council, but owned by the SPTCV.

De Zárate explained that "the City Council needs to have the ownership of these facilities to be able to make adaptation and renovation investments that are absolutely necessary, since these infrastructures have been operating for almost two decades and require certain actions, some of them urgent, to comply with quality and consumption standards. "

As an example, he indicated that "it is necessary to change part of the treatment that is made to water in the water treatment plant" because a report from the concessionaire indicates that the water has levels that, although they are within the regulations, it is necessary to correct it. "We have taken measures to mitigate this situation momentarily, but it is essential to make an investment in the plant so that the solution is final," he clarified.

In addition, "being the owners of these infrastructures would allow us to act immediately if we detect any breakdown or incident, without having to wait for authorizations that delay the resolution of these problems and that affect the service more than due, as has happened on some occasions" .

Apart from the cession of infrastructures already managed by the City Council, the proposal reiterates the requests to obtain the marine water collection facilities located in the Paseo de Tamarindos, all its pipelines and the works executed for the construction of a desalination plant in the PEDUI. De Zárate recalled the City Council and requested this assignment in January and September 2015, but there was no response from the SPTCV. Hence, it has been included again.

The councilor explained that "in case of drought" for Benidorm it would be "fundamental" to have these infrastructures to capture seawater and that the construction of the desalination plant be completed, since both actions would make it possible to "have its own desalinated water" without having to resort to external contributions.

De Zárate pointed out that "if the complete transfer of assets of all the indicated infrastructures is not viable, what we propose to the SPTCV is the signing of an agreement that regulates the use of all the facilities and their conditions in terms that are interesting for both parts. "
