Benidorm approves the 22nd remittance of aid to families, of which more than 70% of the applications have already been processed

Benidorm aprova la 22a remesa d'ajudes a famílies, de les quals ja s'han tramitat més del 70% de les sol·licituds...

The Local Government Board (JGL) today has approved the 22nd remittance of municipal aid to families aimed at mitigating the economic and social effects caused by the Covid-19 pandemic for an amount of 171,600 euros. The mayor, Toni Pérez, has indicated that "at this time a little more than 72% of the requests have been processed and solved, and the 21 previous remittances have been fully or partially paid."

During the submission process, around 6,100 applications were received, of which about 4,400 have already been processed. To date, 2,020 grants have been given and 212 resources have been estimated, which brings to 2,232 applications approved when the beneficiaries meet the requirements.

Toni Pérez has indicated that "the City Council has already allocated 1.9 million euros to these grants, 500,000 euros more than initially planned." In this regard, he recalled that “when we outlined these aid to inject resources into the homes hit by this economic and social crisis, we provided them with a budget of 1.4 million euros, an amount that corresponded to 20% of the surplus of 2019, the maximum percentage that the Government of Spain has allowed municipalities to allocate to measures related to the coronavirus crisis ”.

However, "that initial budget was insufficient to meet all the requests that have been received and that meet the requirements set out in the bases." For this reason, "we have already injected an additional 500,000 euros from the current resources of the 2020 budget, regardless of investments or current expenses planned for this year, and shortly we will make a second extraordinary injection also of half a million euros." The mayor recalled that, as advanced days ago, 214,000 euros for these extraordinary injection will come from the budget that was reserved for festive entities, which have renounced these subsidies.

Once the second extraordinary injection materializes, the amount finally destined to aid to families will have reached 2.4 million euros. The mayor has stressed that "as we have already transferred and we have shown with the first additional injection of 500,000 euros, this City Council is not going to spare efforts and resources so that all people who meet the requirements receive this help."

Toni Pérez has indicated that in addition to the aid processed to date, there are more than 1,200 already valued, which can be resolved practically automatically as soon as the second budget modification of 500,000 euros becomes effective. Thus, only 8% of the requests remain to be assessed.
