Benidorm and Ecovidrio present the prizes to the winning clubs of 'La peña recicla' campaign in the last Patron Major Festivities

Benidorm y Ecovidrio entregan los premios a las peñas ganadoras de la campaña ‘La peña recicla’ de las pasadas Festes Majors Patronals

This morning, the Departments of Environment and Fiestas and the company Ecovidrio presented the prizes for 'La peña recycle' contest that took place in the last Patron Major Festivities, on November 13 and 14. In total, the contest achieved the recycling of 1,420 kilos of glass among the nine participating clubs.

The event took place during a press conference in which the Councilors for the Environment and Festivals, Mónica Gómez and Mariló Cebreros, and the manager of Ecovidrio, Roberto Fuentes, were present, with representatives of the three clubs.

Thus, the first prize went to 'Quin Cacau' club, which recycled 600 kilos of glass containers. Second place went to 'El Timó', with 520 kilos and the third prize went to 'El Mos' club, with 50 kilos of recycled glass containers.

The initiative tried to challenge the clubs to compete among themselves to recycle the greatest number of kilos of glass possible during those days. For this purpose, a giant scale was placed at Plaza de la Constitución, where supporters of the club went to weigh and recycle their glass containers. In addition, several educators were in charge of weighing the glass and controlling the kilos recycled by each of the clubs. An eco-patrol visited the festive clubs on November 13 and 14, encouraging participation in the contest.

Mónica Gómez wanted to “thank you for the effort made, which demonstrates the commitment to the city and the sustainability of all the participants.” The councillor has also encouraged the clubs "to continue along the same path in future editions, for which we will provide the means to make the planet a little better together."

Mariló Cebreros has also highlighted “the commitment” of the nine clubs that participated in the initiative “because they make our city a better city.” And she has encouraged them to spread it on their social networks to get more clubs involved and so that next year you continue setting an example.”

For his part, Roberto Fuentes also thanked the participation "although it was not as numerous as we expected" and highlighted the good glass recycling data in Benidorm "which has grown by 12% over last year's data." In this sense, Fuentes has stressed that the city "is three times as recycled as the average for the province and more than three times higher than the average for the Valencian Community in kilos per inhabitant."

According to the latest available data corresponding to 2022, Benidorm citizens recycled a total of 3,387,962 kilos of glass containers, which means that each citizen recycled an average of 48.6 kilos of glass. Regarding the container rate, the town has an average of one container for every 166 inhabitants, currently having 421 igloos for glass packaging waste installed in the municipality.
