Benidorm is added for the second consecutive year to the European Mobility Week

The program
includes the presentation of a bike lane between the city and Alfaz along the
slopes of Serra Gelada

It
also will be launched a bus-bike lane and an app with schedules, lines and
incidents of urban buses

 

For
the second consecutive year, the city of Benidorm
has joined the European Mobility Week, held from this Friday, Sept. 16 to
Thursday 22. The area councilor José Ramón González de Zárate, has presented
today the program of activities designed by the City Hall, and that with
respect to the previous year "has risen in content" and efforts to
"improve cycling and urban transport". Every day of the week will be
devoted to a particular subject related to mobility, sustainability and
security.  It will be held: the Public Transport Day, Pedestrian, Bicycle,
Education and Road Safety, Sustainable Mobility and Greenways , Clean Vehicle
and a Day without cars. The councillor advanced that this year "as a
new" the day without cars will take "all week" on the Avenue of
Armada Española, retricting circulation only for residents and authorized
vehicles, emergency and public-transport. Among all the activities that will be
developed, De Zárate highlighted the implementation of "a cycling lane
between Benidorm and Alfaz del Pi," which will be opened on Tuesday 20
September, which is the result of collaboration between both municipalities . The
councillor pointed out that both municipalities have been "working for
almost a year on making routes along Serra Gelada from Faro del Albir to La Cruz in Benidorm", and
clarified that coinciding with the Mobility Week these routes will be
inaugurated, which can be explored on foot or by bicycle. The councillor also
highlighted the commissioning of a mobile application about urban buses in
Benidorm with information , lines, incidents and school buses. This application
will be presented on Friday 16. A day later, there will be a pedestrian route
through the OldTown in collaboration with Heritage
departement. On Sunday 18 there is provided a route by bike which will start
from ElchePark at 10.00 hours, 9 kilometers long
and open to the public. On Monday, the day will be devoted to security and in
the Children's Traffic
Park
, are scheduled
school visits, and a table whith the participation of the local police and the
director of  Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS) and technicians and
representatives of the business sector and cyclists asociations. On Wednesday
21 Benidorm will adhere to Edward European project 'First Day victimless' and
there will be an exhibition of electric vehicles and start operating the
charging point located opposite City Hall.
