This year the beaches premiere the 'S' for Sustainability, which is added to the 'Q' for Quality, the Safe Tourism seal and the Qualitur and Ecoplayas flags

The beaches of Benidorm display their quality flags, obtained after passing the most demanding audits

Las playas de Benidorm lucen sus distintivos de calidad, obtenidos tras superar las auditorías más exigentes

The municipal laboratory controls the quality of bathing water, sand and footbaths weekly

As of today, the beaches of Benidorm display the hallmarks that certify their quality, obtained after passing "the most demanding audits" carried out by external organizations such as the Institute for Spanish Tourist Quality (ICTE) or the Generalitat Valenciana itself. The mayor, Toni Pérez, together with the Councilor for Beaches, Mónica Gómez, and members of the Corporation, today raised the five flags that "confirm the quality and sustainability of Benidorm's beaches and all the services that are provided on them".

Toni Pérez detailed that in one more year, the beaches and coves of Benidorm have revalidated the 'Q' flags for Quality, Ecoplayas, and Safe Tourism - all delivered by the ICTE - and Qualitur, granted by the Generalitat. To these is added the distinctive 'S' for Sustainability, a newly created ICTE seal that Benidorm has been one of the first municipalities to obtain.

The mayor explained that these quality marks not only refer to the bathing area and the sandbanks but also to the services provided, such as lifeguards, cleaning, beach libraries, or accessible beach points.

Accessible beaches that in turn comply with "the demanding ISO regulations", also of an international nature, and that throughout the year allow people with mobility problems to enjoy the beaches of Benidorm.

Toni Pérez stressed that these flags are "recognition of the work of a whole year by the municipal services and the concessionaire that manages the beaches" to offer the best space and the best service, and he has influenced the levels of "permanent" self-demand in Benidorm in the care and maintenance of its beaches.

At this point, he highlighted that "Benidorm is one of the few coastal cities and destinations with a municipal laboratory", which allows us to control constantly the quality of the water, sand, and footbaths on the beaches. During the high season, weekly analyzes of these three elements are carried out from the laboratory, which is added to the controls and audits carried out by other external organizations. Outside of the high season, the municipal laboratory performs these same analyses every two weeks.
