The iconic building, an action of Benidorm DTI + Seguro Tourism Sustainability Plan, will value Benidorm's relationship with the sea
Aula del Mar de Benidorm will present the seafaring history of the city
The budget for this new cultural and educational space amounts to 655,154.50 euros
The works of the Aula del Mar, a project that is turning a State plot into a “cultural, historical and pedagogical space to publicize the seafaring history of Benidorm, traditions such as almadraba fishing, and also claim the environmental value of the sea” explained the mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez during today's visit.
In a privileged location on the Levante beachfront, the future Aula del Mar is one of the most iconic actions of the Benidorm DTI + Seguro Plan, which seeks to continue promoting the city's tourism sector based on sustainability.
“Our idea was to pay homage to the great history that the sea has given us, building a new educational and cultural space on the beachfront,” Mayor Toni Pérez added. “For this essential work, we are committed to an open and diaphanous plot that comes to feed the spirit of Benidorm by expanding the cultural offer, recovering the past and the seafaring traditions of our city but also our present. This action of the Benidorm DTI + Seguro plan, which includes a projection space and an exhibition room, will allow us to spread the environmental value of the sea and the maritime history of Benidorm.” The budget for this new cultural and educational space amounts to 655,154.50 euros.
The innovative design of the building is based on three differentiated volumes that will house the exhibition hall, a space for conferences with a built-in audio system and the toilets. For the construction, non-industrial ceramic hexagons will be used, combining modern architecture with a traditional and sustainable material typical of Benidorm. The front space, with a unique pavement that simulates the waves of the sea, will be open to celebrate all kinds of cultural and recreational events. In the construction, the existing trees are being respected, which will be expanded with new plantations at the end of the work.
As in the rest of the actions framed in the Benidorm DTI + Seguro Plan, the Aula del Mar will include the use of the latest information and communication technologies to record visitor information and thus be able to continue improving the city's tourist offer.
The Aula del Mar, as a cultural, historical, and educational resource, will contribute to the preservation of Benidorm's cultural heritage with more accessible and sustainable connected resources, one of the objectives of the Benidorm DTI + Seguro Plan.
These objectives include the use of ICTs in tourism management, the improvement of restoration and landscape, and the preservation and restoration of natural heritage.
The Benidorm DTI + Seguro Plan is a municipal strategy that was recognized by the Government of Spain and the Generalitat Valenciana within the ordinary call of the Tourism Sustainability Plan for Destinations with the aim of continuing to advance in safe, sustainable, and smart governance, promoting the tourism sector of Benidorm. With a total investment of more than €2,950,000, the Plan includes 19 actions grouped into four strategic axes: actions in infrastructure and tourist facilities to improve accessibility and sustainability, actions to advance management, smart planning and the diversification of tourism products, the competitive transformation of the city and measures to ensure hygienic-sanitary safety.
