Anémona presents the T-shirt for the 24th Solidarity Walk against Breast Cancer, to be held in Benidorm on 18 October
The association has returned to pink this year as the colour of choice for the T-shirt, designed by young artist Marina López Martínez. The T-shirts are available to purchase from today for €12
Anémona Marina Baixa, the self-help group for women with breast and gynaecological cancer in Benidorm and the surrounding area, presented its T-shirt this Friday at El Torrejó Municipal Centre for the city’s major Solidarity Walk, which will take place on 18 October as part of the events commemorating International Breast Cancer Day. This year’s event will be the 24th edition.
Benidorm Island and the pink ribbon symbolising the fight against the disease are once again the main elements featured on the T-shirt. It was designed by young Benidorm resident Marina López Martínez and is now available to purchase for €12 at Anémona’s headquarters on La Biga Street, as well as at participating partner and sponsor establishments.
Anémona president María Botella presented the design at a press conference attended by Councillors for Equality and Sports, Ángela Zaragozí and Javier Jordá, respectively, as well as the designer herself.
In addition to the pink ribbon and the island, the T-shirt has also returned this year in the pink colour associated with the fight against this type of cancer and features a print depicting the waves of Benidorm Bay. The T-shirts will be available in a wide range of sizes, including sizes for young children, to reach as broad an audience as possible, whether or not they take part in the Solidarity Walk on 18 October.
“The aim is to sell as many T-shirts as possible,” María Botella said. As the association pointed out, the money raised through the sale of the T-shirts helps to fund many of the activities Anémona provides throughout the year, including therapeutic programmes and support for women undergoing treatment for breast or gynaecological cancer, as well as contributing to research into the disease.
Botella also thanked Benidorm City Council for “its unconditional support for the Solidarity Walk and the other events” organised by Anémona. She expressed her hope that “people will support us as they do every year and that, on 18 October, we will enjoy another great Solidarity Walk”.
For their part, both Zaragozí and Javier Jordá once again expressed “the City Council’s full support to ensure that this walk, as is now tradition, is a great success” and invited the public to “start buying the T-shirts presented today, so that Benidorm can once again be turned pink next October”.
