The work, framed in the EDUSI and with an investment of more than one million euros, has been visited today by the mayor Toni Pérez

The actions to improve accessibility and mobility in the area around Calle Santa Cristina are entering their final phase

06 February 2023
Obras Santa Cristina

The work to improve accessibility and mobility in the streets of Santa Cristina, San Ramón, San Marco, Santo Tomás and the intersection with Avenida de l'Aigüera has already entered the final phase as the milling and asphalt work has already begun. . For this reason, the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, visited the performance this morning, accompanied by some members of the local government.
The action, framed in Benidorm's Sustainable and Integrating Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI), and with a budget of 1,052,591.96 euros, replaces the sidewalks, which did not comply with accessibility regulations, with a single platform of non-slip pavement that has given priority to the pedestrian.

This intervention to improve mobility and accessibility has also included the replacement of the luminaires with a network of led luminaires, works co-financed with funds provided by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE). This change to more sustainable lighting, "allows us to reduce consumption, the carbon footprint, and the electricity bill of the City Council, and advances the integral sustainability of Benidorm," explained Toni Pérez during this morning's visit. The water network has also been renewed with new pipes to improve future maintenance.

Signage has also been renewed and parking spaces will be marked, as well as pedestrian areas. In the same way, the work will conclude with traffic modifications, agreed upon and agreed upon with the neighbors. Thus, those authorized and those who have exit fords in Santo Tomás streets will be able to leave with their vehicles to Avenida de l'Aigüera, "which was a historical claim by the residents of the area," Pérez pointed out.

This work responds to the strategic objectives of improving mobility and promoting social inclusion. The investment, over one million euros, has a contribution of 437,667.74 euros from European FEDER funds.

"It is a comprehensive rehabilitation of a very important area of Benidorm, such as the upper part of Avenida l'Aigüera, which connects with the Alfonso Puchades junction" has detailed the mayor, who has also highlighted the asphalting "on the platform unique" and the solution offered to users of private car parks "by enabling the connection to Avenida de l'Aigüera in a semi-pedestrian mode with a low-density road compatible with pedestrian use that provides the best mobility and accessibility to the whole neighborhood."

Toni Pérez also wanted to "extremely thank the residents and merchants of this area for their understanding and collaboration during the time that the works have lasted."
