Registration for the ‘Shortpitch’ opens on Friday

After reaching a record of short films registered for its fifth edition, the Skyline Benidorm Film Festival has once again set a new high, in this case with the number of works submitted to the Script Contest, whose registration closed last week. The Councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, and the director of the festival, Beatriz Hernández, have reported that "a total of 188 scripts have been received, 80 more than last year."

The mayor of Culture has pointed out that "this increase in the number of registrations is the result of the visibility and relevance that the festival has achieved within the national circuit after its first four editions."

For her part, the Skyline director has indicated that "in addition to fiction works, in this edition the Script Contest has also been opened to documentaries" and has advanced that from the organization "a selection of ten finalist scripts, which the jury will assess during the festival, which is held from June 25 to July 4 ”. The script contest prize is endowed with 500 euros.

Likewise, Hernández has advanced that "this Friday, March 12, the registration period for the 'Shortpitch' opens, aimed at directors or producers at the national level with a project in the development or pre-production phase." You can participate in this contest "even those projects that have obtained prior aid." From among the projects presented, a maximum of 12 works will be selected, which each creator "must defend before the jury during the festival."

Registration, open until May 1, can be formalized through the email shortpitch@skylinefest.es; while the bases are already available on the new festival website presented last week: https://skylinefest.es/.

The Councilor for Culture stressed that "this 'Shortpitch' contest is an excellent opportunity given to creators to materialize their work, since the prize valued at 10,000 euros will allow the winner to have the equipment, work and services of companies of the Community to shoot his/her short film ”. In fact, as the festival director has confirmed, “among the short films that have been submitted to the competition in this fifth edition of the Skyline Benidorm Film Festival is the winning project of last year's 'Shortpitch', as well as several of the finalists ”.

"It is very satisfying to see that despite the circumstances of the last year, marked by the pandemic, the creators have not given up their projects and have worked hard to be able to film their stories and bring them to the public," said Jaime Jesús Pérez.

Record of short films and sections in competition

A total of 455 short films will fight to be among the 40 works selected to compete in the four sections in the competition of this fifth installment of Benidorm Skyline Film Festival, in which seven prizes are awarded: best European short film, best national fiction short film, best national animation short film, best national documentary short film, best short film in Valencian languege, best short film on sustainability and best short film made by students. In addition to the financial prizes, other prizes are awarded for production, direction, best photography and the best original soundtrack.

As in previous editions, the contest maintains payment per screening, so that the 25 works selected within the competitive national section will receive 200 euros.
