'42 hearts to not give up', the new solidarity challenge to support Anémona led by Jaume Benaloy
The priest from Benidorm will run the Madrid Marathon on April 26, raising funds for every kilometer run to fight breast cancer
Father Jaume Benaloy, a priest from Benidorm and currently vicar of the parish church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna, after spending more than fifteen years on a mission in Peru, will undertake a new fundraising challenge on April 26th to support Anémona, a self-help group for women with breast and gynaecological cancer in Benidorm and the Marina Baixa region. This challenge, which he has called "42 Hearts to Not Give Up," will consist of running the 42.195 kilometres of the Madrid Marathon and raising funds for each kilometre covered to be donated to the fight against breast cancer.
He will be accompanied by the president of Anémona, María Botella, and other members of the organisation. And with the support of the Benidorm City Council's Equality and Sports councillors, Ángela Zaragozí and Javier Jordá, the protagonist of this feat has indicated that those who wish to collaborate can sponsor a kilometre of this race with a financial donation, starting at 25 euros and reaching any amount each sponsor wishes. The funds will be deposited into the organisation's account and will serve to support the actions carried out by Anémona, which basically consist of providing support to breast cancer patients and their families, as well as supporting various research projects to halt the progression of this disease.
Benaloy stated that the title of the challenge, "42 Hearts to Not Give Up," will allow him to "pray in every kilometer of the race for women who are going through this ordeal" and also, "especially when our strength fails us, to think of their courage and strength to reach the finish line, because they too represent 42 reasons not to give up."
Both María Botella and the councillors for Equality and Sports have thanked Jaume Benaloy for his involvement with this cause and have publicly encouraged support for this challenge by sponsoring kilometres for Anemona.
