Benidorm continues this Sunday, after the Benidorm Half, the 2018 season of 'running' with the celebration of the second longest test of the Valencian Community, the Cross El Calvari, which this year celebrates its edition number 39 and which is organized jointly by the Department of Sports, the El Calvari Festa and the Benidorm Athletics Club.
The test will take place this Sunday, March 11, and will have two categories: children and adults. The race in absolute category will be held starting at 10.00 am from Martínez Alejos street, while the students will start at 11.30.
This new edition of the race has been presented by the Councilor for Sports, Arturo Cabrillo; by the organizer of the test José Brotons, by the president and vice president of the El Calvari Festival, Alfonso Andrés and Francisco Mas; and by Bienvenido Gómez, vice president of the Athletics Club.
Arturo Cabrillo explained that the test consists of a distance of 7,750 meters, which will be covered in two rounds to a circuit that will run around El Calvari neighborhood and nearby streets. Thus, the race will have Martínez Alejos street as its start and will continue along La Alameda de Don Pedro Zaragoza, Carmela Martínez street, El Torrejó square, Virgen del Sufragio, Alcoy avenue, Madrid, Castellón street, Avenida del Mediterráneo and Dr Pérez Llorca.
The councillor recalled that it is "a circuit and a very affordable distance for the 'amateur' runners who are starting in the world of 'running'", and highlighted the "great role in the call in the different educational centers "That the municipal sports monitors are doing". In fact, the vice president of the Athletics Club Benidorm has predicted that this year, and thanks to the work of the monitors, "there will be a record of runners" in the children's modality, since it is estimated that more than 1,500 schoolchildren could participate among the categories of prebenjamines, youngest, fry, children, cadets and even babies.
Registration can be made until Thursday at 23:59 hours through the web www.grupobrotons.es, although the same day of the race will allow a quota of inscriptions by category.
The president of Festa El Calvari thanked all the sponsors of the event for their collaboration, and indicated that there will be trophies for the first three classified and medals for the children's categories.
Likewise, Alfonso Andrés has announced that the Diego Cano Enguera awards will be handed out on the occasion of this race, which are annually awarded to a festive entity and to an athlete or sports entity "who have excelled the previous year or because of their career". Some prizes that in their 21st anniversary will be for the firefighter Domingo Seguí 'Chomi' - gold medal in the World Games and the Firemen and Police Olympics - and for the Brotherhood Jesús Nazareno that this year celebrates its 50th anniversary.
