Seven bookstores will be installed in this fair that will remain at Plaza de la Hispanidad until September 16

The 29th Old and Used Book Fair opens its doors with more than 70,000 copies for sale

24 August 2018
La 29ª Feria del Libro Antiguo y de Ocasión abre sus puertas con más de 70.000 ejemplares a la venta

The 29th Old and Used Book Fair has opened its doors in Benidorm today with more than 70,000 copies for sale. The acting mayor and Councilor for Culture, Ana Pellicer, has toured this afternoon with various members of the corporation the stalls installed at Plaza de la Hispanidad by the seven participating bookstores, among which are two local and five of Altea , Lorca, Granada and Murcia.

Pellicer indicated that "almost three decades after its launch and in the middle of digital era, this fair is still an important pole of attraction for reading fans who like to read on paper, who enjoy the touch of a book , and that they know that in these exhibitors they can always find what they are looking for ".

The head of Culture recalled that "if something makes this fair special is the variety of genres and editions; the opportunity to locate already discontinued works; and stumble over some literary oddities. "

Among the more than 70,000 copies on sale there are historical, war or black genre novels; narrative; essays; poetry; books on architecture, design, history, art or photography; classics; comics; science fiction and role plays; and, of course, copies of 'El Quijote', from collectors to children's editions.

The most outstanding copies of this edition are: a numbered facsimile of the first edition of 1605 of 'El Quijote'; a 'History of Virgin Mary' in three volumes of an edition of very little circulation; and a 'Bible' in 6 volumes edited by Bac Miñón.

To the bibliographical offer are also added old photographs of Benidorm or bullfighting posters.

Pellicer stressed that "this variety of genres makes the Old and Used Book Fair a cultural and leisure alternative to share with the family, and especially with the little ones since during the weekends they will perform storytelling activities to wake up between the children and girls the love of reading. " Specifically, every Friday and Saturday at 8:00 pm the play 'The Tower of Wisdom. A little story for a better world. '

The 29th Old and Used Book Fair will be open until September 16, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 5:30 pm to 12:00 am. The price of the copies for sale ranges from 1 to 2,500 euros.

The participating booksellers will donate bibliographic material to the Municipal Library for a value of about 2,150 euros.
