The Urban Scene Advisory Council supports the project to make Pérez Llorca street semi-pedestrian

06 September 2017
El Consejo Asesor de Escena Urbana respalda el proyecto para semipeatonalizar Pérez Llorca

The proposal proposes to invest about 470,000 euros

The council gives viability to make the second phase of pedestrianization of Tomás Ortuño street

The Urban Scene Advisory Council of Benidorm has supported the project to make Doctor Pérez Llorca street pedestrian, in the section between Valencia Street and Martínez Alejos Avenue. A semi-pedestrian street that is based on the configuration of a zig-zag itinerary through the installation of street furniture and planters, and that will force the vehicles that circulate along this route of about 160 meters to do it at a speed much lower than the current one.

The Urban Escena councilman, José Ramón González de Zárate, explained during the meeting that the proposed design follows the model already implanted in Gambo street, with "a very similar floor". In addition, it is proposed to operate a "loading and unloading system similar to that on Paseo de la Carretera, where this activity is restricted to a certain time in the morning", and that the rest of the day maintains its pedestrian character.

For this, they will be installed in this street and randomly stone benches, planters, street lamps and other elements that will force the authorized vehicles to circulate at a slower speed than the current one. Likewise, at the two ends of the stretch they will install folding piles.

In principle the project presented today is not limited to the 160 meters of Pérez Llorca, but also includes the alley that connects this with Gambo, practically at the height of Valencia Street. De Zárate has clarified that from the Town Hall "we are trying to clarify the ownership of this alley, to also act on it and give continuity to the remodeling of Pérez Llorca."

This project is valued at about 470,000 euros and is understood as a complement to the future remodeling of Mediterráneo. The financing of this action is proposed to make from the funds provided for the renovation of Mediterráneo, amounting to 650,000 euros. The councilman of Urban Scene has qualified that of that item reserved for Mediterráneo only will use 180,000 euros that will have to pay to the company that is writing the project of execution of Mediterráneo, reason why the money can be reinverted in this action .

De Zárate has pointed out that with this work "we advance in the idea of an urban center in which pedestrians becomes more and more protagonist".

The Urban Scene Advisory Council has also given feasibility to the project of the second phase of pedestrianization of Tomás Ortuño, which last week already addressed the Mobility Council and with which the municipal technicians propose to get to the junction with Limones street. The councilman of Urban Scene has pointed out that "initially when talking about this second phase was planned to reach Apolo XI, so the proposal supported by both bodies of participation is to increase the pedestrian area, including also San Antonio Street."

The councilman recalled that this prolongation of the pedestrianization of Tomás Ortuño forced to redesign the traffic of the area to avoid congestion. The changes will mainly affect the streets Maravall and Marqués de Comillas, which will reverse their sense of circulation. In addition, the circulation will change also in Roldán and Puig Campana streets.

Punctual modification number 20

The last point of the meeting of the Advisory Council of Urban Scene has been the one relative to the draft of the specific modification number 20 of the General Plan on tertiary-commercial use. At this point, the Independent Association of Merchants of Benidorm and Comarca, AICO, has made a proposal to include as commercial axis about thirty streets of the center. The municipal technicians must now inform about the proposal.
