The celebration of the Cyclocross World Cup in Benidorm has been a complete success in attendance and organization, in addition to the spectacular promotional impact that Benidorm has had as a destination for sporting events, especially cycling.

More than 15,000 fans have gathered in the city to enjoy this show that has not disappointed anyone. After the appetizer yesterday Saturday with the national championship races, today the main course has arrived with the dispute of the World Cup event in the Elite male and female categories.

From early in the morning there was a cycling atmosphere in the city and even more so around the circuit that ran through Parque de Foietes and El Moralet, enclaves that have been packed at all times with a public that has not ceased to encourage athletes throughout the day.

The first test to be held has been the women's, in which the cyclists from the Netherlands have been the dominators by taking the three podium drawers. The race was won by Fem van Empel, while the second and third positions went to her compatriots Puck Pieterse and Shirin van Amrooij.

In the men's race, one of the favorites, the Dutchman Mathieu van del Poel, has prevailed, followed by the Belgians Wout van Aert and Eli Iserbyt. It so happens that it was the first time that Wout van Aert competed in Spain and the place chosen was Benidorm. Fourth place went to Laurens Sweeck, also from Belgium, and fifth to current world champion Thomas Pidcock from Britain. The first Spaniard was the cyclist from Villajoyosa, Felipe Orts, ninth classified.

Mayor Toni Pérez, present at both events and also at the medal-giving ceremony, expressed his satisfaction "for this great sporting achievement, which places us as a reference in the world of cycling, and which has been a complete success for assistance and organization.
