Students of the IES Bernat de Sarrià visit the municipal laboratory
Students from the 2nd year of the Baccalaureate of Sciences of the IES Bernat de Sarriàn today visited the municipal laboratory of Benidorm City Council to learn about the work carried out in these facilities. Together with their teachers, laboratory staff and the Councilor for Health, Mónica Gómez, the students toured the facilities and were mainly interested in the periodic analyzes that are carried out to control the quality of bathing water, and sand and footbath. of the beaches of Benidorm and those that take place in the municipal swimming pools, both in the Palau d'Esports l'Illa and in the Ciudad Deportiva 'Guillermo Amor', as well as in the water network.
During the visit, the laboratory staff has detailed to the students the different chemical and biological controls that are practised and has explained the entire process that runs from taking samples to obtaining the results of the analytics.
The Councilor for Health thanked the IES Bernat de Sarrià "for its interest in making the work carried out in the laboratory known to the students and, through it, making them participate in the important and constant management of health control that it carries out Benidorm City Council to guarantee at all times, for example, that our beaches and the services provided on them offer the highest quality standards”.
Gómez recalled that “controls on the beaches are carried out every week in high season and fortnightly the rest of the year, taking samples at ten different points on the seafront: Calas de l'Almadrava and Ti Ximo; three enclaves of the Levante beach; another three in Westeros; Mal Pas beach; and the island.
These samples taken by technicians from the municipal laboratory are subsequently analysed to determine if they meet the standards regulated in Royal Decree 1341/2007, of October 11, on bathing water quality management.
In addition to testing the beaches and municipal swimming pools, the laboratory performs weekly checks on the drinking water supply network and fountains. Also in the cisterns of schools; while supervising the microbiological quality of the food served in its dining rooms.
The municipal and public laboratory is also available to any individual or neighbourhood that needs its services to determine water quality in swimming pools or cisterns.
