Sergio Rocafort, Laura Narejos and Claudia Mayor, winners of the XXXVII Benidorm New Creators Competition
Sergio Rocafort, with his work ‘Infancia entre ruinas,’ and Laura Narejos, with ‘Wquilibrio Vulnerable,’ have been named the winners of the 37th Young Creators Competition organised by the Youth Department of Benidorm City Council, headed by Councillor Ana Soliveres. The jury's decision was announced this Friday at the City Hall's Espai d’Art, where the participating works have been on display in recent weeks, in front of some of the artists who participated in this edition, as well as friends and family.
Both winners received the majority vote of the jury in the painting and sculpture categories, respectively, and each will receive a prize of 1,000 euros.
Additionally, the painting ‘Vision of Chaos,’ by Claudia Mayor, was recognised as the best work created by an artist under 18 years of age, earning her a prize of 100 euros.
The Councillor for Youth highlighted the “great reception” of this 37th edition, which has achieved “very good levels of participation, which we hope will be maintained or even surpassed in future editions.” In this regard, the competition received a total of 22 entries across its two categories: 16 in Painting and six in Sculpture, submitted by a total of 16 artists. These included young people from Benidorm, La Vila, Alicante, Albacete, Polop, Gandía, Benissa, Elche, Torrent, and Caldas de Malavella (Girona).
Ana Soliveres reiterated that the purpose of this competition is “to promote the art and talent of emerging artists or those who have already begun to take their first steps,” to encourage them “to showcase their work,” and to allow the public “to interact with innovative proposals created by artists of today and, above all, of tomorrow.”
Furthermore, she reiterated that her department “will continue working to support and foster the creativity of our young people” and emphasised that with these kinds of initiatives “we all win” because “artists have a place to exhibit their work and creations, and we, as the City Council, enrich our artistic heritage.”
