Benidorm reinforces its street cleaning and waste collection service with 54 additional workers during Holy Week

27 March 2026
Benidorm refuerza el dispositivo de limpieza viaria y recogida de residuos con 54 operarios más durante la Semana Santa

Councilman Luis Navarro states that "we scaled the service to adequately meet the needs generated by the large volume of tourists expected these days."

With the start of Holy Week, Benidorm City Council, through its Department of Street Cleaning and FCC, the company contracted for cleaning and waste collection services, will be reinforcing the city's cleaning and waste collection operation. The councillor for the department, Luis Navarro, indicated that the operation, which is standard for this time of year, will be in effect from Monday, March 30, until April 15, and will include 54 additional workers, distributed across different shifts.

The councilor explained that "with this reinforcement, we are ensuring the service is adequately staffed to meet the needs generated by the large volume of tourists expected in Benidorm during this period, as well as by the processions and other Holy Week events." Thus, “areas with higher pedestrian traffic, such as the main promenades and pedestrian streets, will be reinforced, but without neglecting the cleaning of neighborhoods. At the same time, cleaning will be increased at the city entrances and in all public parks, with particular emphasis on the Séquia Mare and El Moralet parks.”

The councilor specified that, in addition to the usual tasks—such as manual street washing in the old town, the beaches, and the central streets with the highest concentration of tourists; cleaning with pressure washers; and the collection of municipal solid waste and recyclable materials—this increase in staff will also allow for the reinforcement of other services, such as brush clearing, with two additional crews; and the cleaning of litter bins.

Likewise, in the afternoon shift, additional crews with sweepers, leaf blowers, and pressure washers will be deployed in various neighbourhoods, supplementing the regular service. At night, these reinforcements will focus primarily on street cleaning and the collection of municipal solid waste, also increasing "the number of trucks available to provide better service," the councillor stated.

Luis Navarro also appealed for citizen cooperation. "If any resident wishes to collaborate and is aware of any issues, they can call the Local Police, who will immediately forward the report to Street Cleaning, the FCC on-call crews, or any other City Hall department, and we will act as quickly as possible," he explained.

Finally, he noted that with this plan designed for Holy Week, "we are prepared to reach all areas effectively, given the expected influx of tourists, ensuring a positive experience and projecting a good image." Once this special arrangement is completed, 24 of the operators who are now joining will continue to provide service during the mid-season.
