Sant Antoni Commission organizes one more year 'La cagá de la burra' in Hermitage of Sanz
The Ermita de Sanz will host the celebration of ‘La cagá de la Burra’ (The Donkey’s Poop) next Saturday, September 15, for the third consecutive year, organized by the San Antoni Festival Committee, chaired by Vicente Mayor. The event will begin at noon and will offer bar service, sandwiches, drinks, traditional buns a la paleta (sandwiches), music and fun throughout the day.
‘La cagá de la Burra’ (The Donkey’s Poop) was celebrated for the first time in 2014 by one of the members of the Committee, José Fuster, although it was then discontinued until it was resumed three years ago. The ‘activity’ consists of dividing a piece of land into small numbered plots within which the animal will be placed. The plots are numbered and residents can buy tickets with the number. The prize is won by whoever has purchased the ticket corresponding to the number of the plot where the donkey poops.
As the sole basis of the competition states, the winning plot will be one where there is a greater quantity of excrement in the first deposition of the animal. It is even indicated that, if necessary, a scale will be used.
The prize for whoever has the winning ticket will be 1,000 euros and each ticket will cost ten euros. The land will be divided, as on other occasions, into 500 small plots through which the donkey will move until it completes its mission.
Both the Councillor for Festivals, Mariló Cebreros, and the President of the Commission, Vicente Mayor, have encouraged all the people of Benidorm to come to Ermita de Sanz on Saturday 15th “to spend a very fun day, with a great atmosphere and which will also help to organise Sant Antoni festivities”.
