A mural in La Cala de Benidorm to protect the Environment

The artist from Madrid, although based in Cádiz, Digo Diego (1981), has put the finishing touches on 'No se vende', a large mural that covers the two sides of the bridge on Calle Aigües de La Cala that gives access to Poniente beach.

The intervention has been carried out during the last week, framed in the 'Benidorm Exposes' with which the Department of Historical Heritage and Culture intends to bring urban art closer to citizens.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, and the councillors for Historical Heritage and the Environment, Ana Pellicer and Mónica Gómez; Together with the external adviser of the Department, Alicia Lamarca, have visited the intervention together with the artist who, in recent days, has drawn the attention of all the people who went to the beach on Aigües street.

“It is a work of great quality and originality”, pointed out Toni Pérez, who “following the idea of ​​'Benidorm Expone' of bringing art to the best known and most popular areas”, as we have seen with the espai d'art urbà , allows "to recover spaces, initially diaphanous that, after the intervention, embellish and grow transformed into one more incentive to promote the city".

I say Diego creates "an allegory to the protection of the environment", and the mayor has valued "showing great mastery of technique and colour". A composition that "combines those floats that protect us on the beach with the responsibility that we citizens have to protect the environment", added the mayor.

For her part, the mayor of Historical and Cultural Heritage explained that "after the first quarter of the year in which we dedicated programming to women, the one that is now beginning will be focused on sustainability." Pellicer has pointed out that “in addition to the already announced initiative of the 'Sustainability' photographic contest and exhibition that will be exhibited during the summer in our Espais d'Art Urbà, we are now adding the mural by the artist Digo Diego, and we will shortly present a new exhibition in our Boca del Calvari Museum also with sustainability as the main and central theme”.

About the author and the creation process

Digo Diego is a graduate of Social Education, which gives a special character to his work. His works can be seen in urban spaces in capitals such as Madrid, Zaragoza and Valencia; towns such as Torrellas (Zaragoza) Madrigal de la Vera (Cáceres), Cheste (Valencia); and also abroad Leuven (Belgium) or Elvas (Portugal); among other.

For the realization of the mural 'No se vende', Digo Diego has had to prime the surfaces previously to guarantee the adherence of the pigments of the plastic base to the matte water and the spray finishes with glosses.
