The arrival of these contributions would occur in mid-June

The Marina Baixa Water Consortium agrees to request the transfer of 5 cubic hectometers to the CHJ for this year

10 May 2024
El Consorcio de Aguas de la Marina Baixa acuerda solicitar el trasvase de 5 hectómetros cúbicos a la CHJ para este año

The General Board of the Marina Baixa Water Consortium has approved in its meeting today the request to the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ) for a transfer of five cubic hectometers so that its supply can be made during this year 2024. These contributions will arrive through the Marina Baixa desalination plant in Mutxamel.

The meeting of this body took place this morning in the Plenary Hall of the Benidorm City Council with the presidency of Toni Pérez, president of the Provincial Council and mayor of Benidorm, mayors and councillors of the region, and representatives of the Confederation.

Jaime Berenguer, technical director of the Consortium, specified that once the request was made to the CHJ, the water would arrive "in the middle of June."
Likewise, a modification to the budget for this year has been approved to allocate resources for the purchase of external funds and to cover actions not provided for in the budget. This budget modification amounts to 4,794,091.25 euros.

The General Meeting has also approved the supply report which indicates that the total rainfall in the region during 2023 and so far in 2024 is 439.2 liters per square meter, which represents a rainfall deficit of 380 l/m2. It has also been revealed that the reservoirs of the Marina Baixa are at 36.15% (Guadalest) and 17.22% (Amadorio) for a total volume of impounded water of 6.6 cubic hectometers between both reservoirs.

At this point, it has been reported that one cubic hectometer has been brought forward to May, which was planned for the summer as a result of the increase in agricultural demand for climatic reasons.

In the same way, the works already processed that will be carried out by the CHJ and the Consortium have been specified, such as the renovation of a well in Beniardá to generate resources and the replacement of reuse conduction sections for an amount of about 500,000 euros, as well as such as the improvements in the Polop 1 well and the Amadorio lower pumping.

After exposing the supply situation, it has been concluded that the new demands must be guaranteed by desalinated water resources from the future Benidorm plant and the Mutxamel Marina desalination plant. It has been proposed by the president of the Consortium to begin the process of requesting a new concession of 5 Hm3 from the IDAM of the Marina Baixa in Mutxamel so that the contribution is permanent.
