The mayor highlights “the new policy of creating subsidized housing for the inaction of the previous Consell”

The second vice president of the Generalitat and Minister of Social Services, Equality and Housing, Susana Camarero, announced today in Benidorm that the Generalitat will invest twelve million euros in the construction of around 90 subsidized homes that will be located in the area of West. The waiter has also specified that of that amount, around four million will come from European funds.

The councillor made this announcement during the visit to the plot where the homes will be built on Guatemala Avenue. During the visit she was accompanied by Mayor Toni Pérez; the general secretary of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), Luis Martínez-Sicluna; the general secretary of the FVMP, Miguel Baiach, and members of the municipal corporation.

Camarero, in addition, has highlighted that his department will give top priority to this project for the tender to be as quick as possible, as well as the construction of the homes since having European financing "there are deadlines that must be met." achieve".

The councillor has stressed that “housing is one of the priority objectives of the legislature” and insisted that the recently presented ‘Plan Viu’ puts “in black and white the importance that subsidized housing has for the Consell. Compared to a previous government that built zero public housing, we are committed to building 10,000.”

In the case of Benidorm, on the plot visited there will be about 90 homes and it is planned to reserve a "significant" percentage for young people, "because they need a life project, they want to emancipate themselves and cannot pay the high rental prices." “They are homes that avoid vulnerability, not for vulnerable families,” Camarero added.

The councillor has outlined some aspects of the 'Plan Viu', which she said is based on three pillars: “Collaboration with city councils, public-private collaboration and a regulatory modification to enable the construction of housing since the existing one raised many difficulties and made them unviable” he argued.

For his part, Toni Pérez recalled that the City Council has already made the land for housing available to the Department and has praised "the new policy for generating subsidized housing due to the inaction of the previous Council." Pérez has specified that the new homes will be rented by concession of use "and at the end of 50 or 75 years, this land will revert to the city's heritage."
