Minutos previos al concierto

The prestigious Basque organist Daniel Oyarzábal has been the protagonist of the second concert of the XII International Organ Festival of Benidorm, an event that took place on the evening of this Friday and which, once again, brought together a large audience in the parish church of San Jaime and Santa Ana. The councillor of Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, participated in this recital and was able to share the minutes before its start with Oyarzábal, in the company of the councillors for Commerce and Sports, Javier Jordá, and Juan Antonio Espinosa, one of the two artistic directors of the contest.

The program started with 'Fantasía Super Komm, heiliger Gesist', 'Wachet auf, ruf uns die Stimme' and 'Toccata and Fuga en r menor', by Johann Sebastian Bach, after which Oyarzábal also performed 'Toccata de la Sinfonía V' by Charles Marie Widor, 'Preludio y Fuga en r menor' by Felix Mendelssohn, 'Verset (Book 5)' by Alexander Guilmant, 'Toccata de la Suite Gótica' by Leon Boëllmann, 'La muerte de Asse de Peer Gynt' by Edward Grief and 'Obertura de la Urraca ladrona' by Gioachino Rossini.

Born in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Daniel Oyarzábal graduated cum laude in harpsichord and organ. Later he trained in Vienna, The Hague and Amsterdam. He has been awarded the Special Press Prize at the National Table for Young Performers in Ibiza, second prize in Sight Reading and Reading of Orchestral Scores at the Austrian Interconservatory Competition, first prize in Improvisation at the International Competition of Music of Rome and third prize in the XIX International Organ Competition of Nijmegen, Holland, being the only Spanish organist awarded in the history of the competition.

He is also the principal organist of the National Orchestra of Spain; organist of the Getafe cathedral; professor of the Degree in Contemporary Music Composition at TAI University School of Arts of Madrid; and artistic coordinator of the 'Bach Vermut' organ concert cycle at the National Music Auditorium in Madrid.
