A conference on women from Benidorm in the 20th century brings the commemorative events for March 8th to a close

A conference titled ‘Women of Benidorm in the 20th Century’ concluded the city's commemorative events for March 8th, International Women's Day. The program, which lasted for more than two weeks, featured a wide range of activities. This conference, offered by the Lions Club in collaboration with the Benidorm City Council's Department of Equality, took place yesterday afternoon at the Casa del Fester and was presented by María Devesa and Mercedes Ciges, members of this socio-cultural organisation.

The talk was attended by a large audience, including the Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez; the Councillor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí; and other members of the local government. Among them was José Ramón González de Zárate, also a member of the regional parliament. They all enjoyed a journey through the local history of the last century and the role women played during that period, as well as their contribution to transforming Benidorm into the tourist city it is today: from the first women to practice medicine or nursing, to the first teachers, hotel owners, businesswomen, city councillors, and shopkeepers, among others.

The Councillor for Equality introduced the conference, while the mayor closed it, joining in this recognition of the women of Benidorm “of the 20th century and throughout history,” praising their courage, tenacity, and sensitivity.
