The service has a cost of 260,000 euros and will reduce the expense that families and the clubs have to face when their teams travel to play matches.

The City Council extends the transport contract for sports clubs

15 January 2024
El Ayuntamiento prorroga el contrato de transporte para los desplazamientos de los clubes deportivos

Benidorm City Council has extended the contract for the provision of the transport service to finance the travel of the city's sports clubs when they have to travel to other destinations to play matches in the different categories in which they compete. This was announced by the Councilor for Sports, Javier Jordá, who explained that the amount of this contract, as in previous years, amounts to 260,000 euros and will last throughout 2024.

The councillor has stated that, in this way, Benidorm City Council "complies with the commitment made with the different clubs in the city to make once again available to them this year a transport service paid for by the City Council to transport their athletes.". Likewise, Jordá has indicated that the objective of this action is to “try to reduce the expenses of families and the clubs, especially in the case of younger categories.”

Among the new features of the service for 2024, the Sports Councilor explained that, as was already advanced at the end of last year, the funds will be distributed among the clubs based on different technical and proportionality criteria such as the number of athletes of each club has, the number of teams, the categories in which they compete or the destination and types of trips they make. The objective is for this distribution, according to Javier Jordá, “to be as equitable and proportional as possible among the beneficiary entities.”

Finally, the municipal official has indicated that the City Council has invited all sports entities that will have free buses for their athletes to make “rational and responsible use” of this resource.
