Benidorm will pay immediately 5.9 million of the expropriation of El Moralet and studies to pay also the bank interests
Benidorm City Council will pay in the coming days the expropriation of 332,894 square meters in the area of El Moralet, property of the Incobe company, and that the Supreme Court has ratified that they are worth 5.9 million euros. This has been agreed today by the Board of Spokespersons, which has also commissioned the municipal technicians to report on the convenience of also paying immediately the interests of this expropriation, quantified in just over one million euros.
The spokesman of the local government, José Ramón González de Zárate, has indicated that the 5.9 million euros "correspond to the main amount of the expropriation" and "are included in the municipal budget", so that their immediate payment "no supposes no economic mismatch "for the coffers of the City Council.
De Zárate explained that "although the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJ) has not requested yet that we execute the sentence, the City Council can advance the payment of those 5.9 million euros." In this regard, he has pointed out that the payment of interest can be postponed until the TSJ requires execution of the sentence.
However, "all groups want to have a report to know if with the immediate payment of interest, which comes from September 18, 2012, we avoid generating new ones". If so, "we would also pay these interests immediately," before the end of the year.
However, if postponing the payment of the interest until the execution of the sentence does not mean a greater disbursement for the municipal coffers, the payment of these would be made from the 2018 budget.
While waiting for these reports, specialists "are studying the remnants of Treasury to obtain that million euros."
De Zárate recalled that the City Council paid in its day 73,000 euros to the owners, an amount that corresponds to "the assessment that the previous local government of PSOE and Liberals gave to that land", and that "far from the 5, 9 million euros set by the Provincial Expropriation Jury, and subsequently ratified by the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJ) and by the Supreme Court ".
