Benidorm Tourism Sustainability Plan, an example of a national competitiveness tractor for Turespaña
Toni Pérez highlights the capacity of these plans to comply with the Strategic Plan of a tourist destination city
The Tourism Sustainability Plan for Benidorm is, for Turespaña, an example of a driver of competitiveness at a national level. For this reason, the mayor, Toni Pérez, has been invited to participate today in Fitur in a discussion table that has been introduced by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Minister of Tourism, Reyes Maroto. A table that, after the presentation by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Fernando Valdés, was moderated by the Deputy Director General for Tourism Development and Sustainability of the Secretary of State for Tourism, Ana Muñoz.
During his exhibition, Toni Pérez has transferred the main lines of the Tourism Sustainability Plan prepared by Benidorm and which was one of the 25 selected at the state level in the first ordinary call. The mayor recalled that this plan, which has already begun to be developed, is financed in three ways by the Secretary of State, the Generalitat Valenciana and the Benidorm City Council and "impacts, through nearly twenty actions and projects, in the axes of the DTI: sustainability, accessibility, innovation, digitization and governance”.
In relation to the Plan, currently under development, Pérez has indicated that "the objective of this new Plan is to consolidate Benidorm as a safe destination, a crucial strategic axis to advance towards the sustainability of tourism in the municipality in the current situation". "A Plan -he has deepened- to consolidate sustainable, environmental and socioeconomic growth, promoting a competitive transformation of its economic model to, from the improvement of various infrastructures, optimize connectivity, accessibility and sustainability of tourist attractions and resources and adopting public health measures to guarantee sanitary and hygienic safety”.
Pérez has emphasized the different measures related to infrastructure, signage and the application of new, more accessible and sustainable tourism resources, to which 40% of the Plan's resources are allocated. Also in the actions aimed at improving the environmental impact (with 30%) and the actions for the management, planning and intelligent creation and diversification of tourism products (20%); as well as the incorporation of risk management programs and health and safety protocol, for which the Plan reserves 10% of its financial resources.
Toni Pérez has highlighted "the capacity of these Sustainability Plans to comply with the Strategic Plan that Benidorm has set itself as a city and tourist destination", and has reaffirmed the intention of the City Council to participate in the next call for Next Generation funds.
