Benidorm promotes the installation of new charging points for electric vehicles in Levante
The project is funded with European funds through the Tourism Sustainability Plan ‘Vision 360’
The Local Governing Board of Benidorm City Council has approved the contract for the installation of new electric vehicle charging points in the Levante area. This project will be financed with Next Generation EU funds, within the framework of the 2022 Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan, ‘Benidorm Vision 360’. This was announced by the councillors for European Funds and Mobility, Aida García Mayor and Francis Muñoz, who emphasised that this project aims to “promote electric mobility as a key element for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to a more sustainable mobility model.”
The contract's tender price is estimated at €106,618.55, and the construction period is set at a maximum of three months. The project, for which the contract is being tendered through a standard and simplified open procedure, includes the installation of two electric vehicle charging points with a total power of 80 kW. These points will be equipped with two CCS Combo 2 (FF) sockets, configured for 1x80 kW / 2x40 kW and charging mode 4, allowing for fast and semi-fast charging of up to four electric vehicles simultaneously.
These new charging points will be installed on Avenida de Juan Fuster Zaragoza, near the Rincón de Loix Administrative Extension, and on Avenida de Filipinas at its intersection with Calle Gerona.
The project also includes the installation of an ORMA13-type concrete cabinet to house the Low Voltage Main Distribution Board (CGBT) and the metering equipment, as well as all the necessary work for its complete installation, legalisation, and commissioning. This includes processing the access and connection to the distribution company's network and establishing the guarantee in accordance with applicable sector regulations. and the legalisation and administrative authorisation procedures.
The councilor responsible for the Mobility area explained that the development of this project “allows us to continue advancing in the implementation of the Benidorm Municipal Electric Mobility Plan (MOVELE),” a strategic document approved in December 2022, which has among its objectives “the progressive deployment, throughout the municipality, of an infrastructure of charging points for electric vehicles, offering residents and visitors the possibility of charging their vehicles using fast and semi-fast chargers, in accordance with the objectives of environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and emissions reduction,” Muñoz recalled.
Furthermore, the project highlights its triple impact: “environmental, functional, and tourism impact,” given that its implementation will allow for the expansion and improvement of the municipal charging infrastructure for electric vehicles; the promotion of electric mobility among residents, local businesses, and visitors to the municipality; the reduction of emissions associated with transportation; and the improvement of energy efficiency. And finally, the improvement of Benidorm's tourism competitiveness as a destination committed to sustainability and the energy transition.
Finally, Francis Muñoz reported that the planned locations for the charging points “have already been validated and agreed upon with i-DE (Redes Eléctricas Inteligentes, S.A.U., part of the Iberdrola group), and the corresponding applications for access and connection to the electrical grid for the necessary new supplies are being processed.”
For her part, the Councillor for European Funds recalled that Benidorm City Council applied to the extraordinary call for proposals for the 2022 Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union with Next Generation EU funds, with the Tourism Sustainability Destination Plan ‘Benidorm Vision 360’, which received funding of €6,103,783. “This plan includes 16 actions, grouped around four strategic axes,” said Aida García Mayor, who specified that this action of implementing electric charging points in the Levante area is in the fourth section within ‘Axis 2: Improvement of Energy Efficiency’.
