Benidorm organiza una nueva edición del Programa de Apoyo Educativo de Verano en el colegio Leonor Canalejas

The City Council will award scholarships to children from families with socioeconomic needs

The Local Government Board of Benidorm City Council approved this Monday the guidelines for a new edition of the Summer Educational Support Program (PAEV) 2025, which will once again be held at the Leonor Canalejas public school. The Councillor for Education, Maite Moreno, explained that this program offers a total of 90 places, aimed at primary school students in the city who have not achieved good academic results or have deficiencies in basic educational skills. The program aims to "offer them tools and they can continue their educational journey in better conditions for the next academic year."

Moreno recalled that the Summer Educational Support Program seeks to "intensify the education of students, primarily those who are disadvantaged," either because they come from low-income families or because they have not achieved good results in school, and whose academic record reflects insufficient grades, irregular class attendance, or deficiencies in basic skills. To this end, the City Council "provides social support to these minors and their families by extending the school year into the summer period and providing greater individual attention, to correct learning deficiencies promptly and thus continue their educational journey with the expectation of promotion."

Classes will be held Monday through Friday, between July 3 and August 26, in two shifts. The first, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., for students in 2nd, 4th, and 6th grades, and the second, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for students in 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades. All students will be offered supportive educational activities in Language, Mathematics, English, and Valencian, adapted to their grade level; as well as study techniques such as motivation, study environment and organisation, verbal and mathematical reasoning, attention and memory, study habits, and tools to prepare for assessments.

The application period for this educational support program begins tomorrow, Tuesday, June 10th, and ends on the 27th of that month. Registration must be completed in the Education Department, on the third floor of Benidorm City Hall.

The Department of Education will award 30 scholarships to families with socioeconomic needs. Those who have received the 100% school cafeteria grant may apply, according to the call established in the RESOLUTION of June 18, 2024, of the Ministry of Education, Universities, and Employment for school cafeteria grants in public and private non-university schools for the 2024-2025 school year (DOGV No. 9880 / 06-28-2024). However, suppose there are more applicants than scholarships available. In that case, they will be awarded based on each student's educational needs, although it is a requirement that the beneficiary families be registered in Benidorm.

The application period for these scholarships will be from June 10th to 20th. Applications will be published on June 23rd, while the reservation period for non-beneficiaries will close on June 26th. Finally, as established in the rules, the final list of students per year will be published on June 30th.
The fees are set as follows:

-General: 76.39 euros/student.
-Large family, general single-parent family, or foster family, or people with a functional diversity due to a disability of less than 33%: 38.20 euros/student.
-Large family or special single-parent family, or people with a functional diversity due to a disability of 33% or more: 0.00 euros/student.
-Youth Card holder or retiree/pensioner: 68.75 euros/student.
-Family with more than one participating member: 61.10 euros/student.
-Regulated income or comparable situation: 0.00 euros/student.

The head of Education, Maite Moreno, emphasized that this program aims "not only to improve academic results but also to facilitate the acquisition of organizational and perseverance habits in work, reinforce mastery of basic instrumental skills—such as reading and writing; language, mathematics, English, and Valencian—and raise students' academic expectations."

To this end, the councilor continued, the PAEV "offers language assistance to children who, due to their background, have difficulty integrating into the school environment and facilitates access to educational support and reinforcement for students from low-income families" who cannot afford this reinforcement. It will also impact how students' study skills are developed and, according to Moreno, "the planning and organization of school activities and help them internalize study techniques to develop a true work habit and achieve lasting learning."
