The aid from the provincial entity amounts to 59,000 euros and has allowed the placement of 90 modules of 450 watts each

Benidorm halves the energy consumption of the DWTP with a subsidy from Alicante Provincial Council for photovoltaic panels

Benidorm Drinking Water Treatment Station (ETAP) will reduce its energy consumption thanks to the installation of 90 photovoltaic modules 100% financed by the Provincial Council of Alicante. Each of the modules develops a power of 450 watts which will make it possible to assume approximately 50% of the annual energy cost of the installation.

The Provincial Deputy for the Environment, Miguel Ángel Sánchez, visited the DWTP this morning accompanied by the Acting Mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the Councilor for the Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate. Sánchez has specified that the investment of the provincial entity in these photovoltaic panels has been 59,000 euros.

The objective of the use of photovoltaic energy is to "reduce energy consumption and make the plant sufficiency," said Sánchez, who specified that these first plates have been placed according to their proximity to the control panels.

Sánchez has highlighted the role of the Provincial Council's policies in the fight against climate change "which are reflected in concrete actions, unlike other administrations such as the regional one that promises and then fails to comply and paralyze pending investments." "We are very clear that we must bet on renewable energy" he added.

At that point, the deputy indicated that the Provincial Council has already approved the next Energy Saving Plan, endowed with five million euros "for the development of energy efficiency policies." He has also revealed that 34 more municipalities will be able to accept the call for energy communities and that there is another game of two million for photovoltaic installations. "We seek the energy self-sufficiency of the administrations" he emphasized.

Sánchez has valued these investments "necessary for the fight against climate change" and has criticized that the Puig administration "barely dedicates 1% to this matter." “They are two completely different policies; one that raises, projects, and executes and another that paralyzes and slows down the projects that have to go ahead ”he has finished.

For his part, González de Zárate, has thanked the Provincial Council for the investment made and "for always thinking of Benidorm" while he has advanced that from the City Council "we have more plates prepared for this infrastructure so that we can make a great plant to provide service to the entire installation and even to other needs such as private service".

He also alluded to the award to have photovoltaic panels in 13 public buildings "because we believe in renewable energy while other administrations do nothing."
