Benidorm closes the general account for financial year 2020 with a positive result of more than 10.5 million euros
Benidorm City Council closed the financial year 2020 with a positive result of 10,562,603.38 euros, despite the decrease in income and the increase in expenses in a year marked by the coronavirus pandemic. This is clear from the results reflected in the general account for last year, which will be ruled on next Monday in the Special Accounts Committee.
As explained by the Councilor for the Treasury, Aida García Mayor, last year's income “decreased by approximately two million euros as a result of decreases in the settlement of fees -three million-, water consumption -two million- and one million less. of administrative concessions ”. However, in this income chapter "the subsidies received from other administrations increased by four million".
On the other hand, the expenses of the City Council increased by 11 million according to the document of the general account. An increase that is mainly due to the fact that the subsidies granted by the council grew by 3.5 million and that external services also grew by 7.5 million, such as the expenses in the garbage collection and street cleaning contract. of the daily disinfection of facilities.
These circumstances explain, the mayor continued, why while the general account for 2019 yielded a positive result of 24.2 million, that of 2010 decreased to 10.5.
García Mayor has valued "very positively" the result of the general account "in a year in which the City Council has had to spend much more on aid to the population due to the pandemic and in which income decreased as a consequence, among others aspects, that tourism also fell in a very notable way ”.
The Councilor for Finance highlighted the fact that, “despite all these circumstances, the City Council ended the course with a positive result, which justifies the good management that this government is carrying out, which has not neglected its citizens nor to the productive fabric at any time mobilizing all the resources at its disposal ”.
In the same way, García Mayor has also recalled that in 2020 the outstanding debt was reduced by 4.3 million, as was reflected in the liquidation of the budget last year, and has underlined the fact that the City Council began the 2020 financial year with a cash flow of 9.2 million euros and ended it with 19.2 million.
Regarding the municipal net worth, this amounted to 114.7 million while in 2019 it was 103.8 million.
