Authorities, queens of Benidorm fiestas and neighbors gather to pay tribute with flowers, poetry and music
Benidorm celebrates the traditional Festa de la Creu with enthusiasm

Benidorm welcomed May with the celebration of the traditional Festa de la Creu (Creu Festival). A festivity that brought together numerous residents and visitors around the old municipal cross, located at the beginning of Emilio Ortuño Avenue
The day began at 8:00 a.m. with the ringing of bells at San Jaime and Santa Ana church. Later, around 11:00 a.m., authorities and fiestas organisations marched in procession, accompanied by the Xirimiters de la Marina, to the cross, where the parish priest, Juan Antonio González, blessed the municipal territory.
The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, participated in the ceremony along with other members of the municipal council. Also present were the regional representative José Ramón González de Zárate, and the Queens of Festes Majors Patronals, Paula Pascual and Aitana Pérez, along with their court of honour.
Representatives from the Commission for Major Patron Festivities, chaired by Susana Martínez, and the Association of Verge del Sofratge Penyes, chaired by Jonathan López, also joined the celebration.
The boundary cross, decorated with flowers by the Commission members of Festa de la Cruz, was the stage where the child Ulises Bernabéu recited the traditional verse.
This moment, one of the most emotional, was received with emotion by all those present.
After the blessing and the reading of the verse, the procession moved to Sant Jaume i Santa Anna church, where the flower offering took place and the Eucharist was celebrated.
Festa de la Cruz is one of Benidorm's oldest and most deeply rooted traditions, with a history dating back to 1802, when the first wooden cross was built to mark the boundary of the municipality.
