The city closes the programming on the occasion of 25-N with a march, promoted by the Housewives with the support of the Department of Equality

Benidorm calls for an end to violence against women and calls for fighting this scourge "together"

25 November 2022
Marcha violencia de género

Benidorm has demanded today that "violence towards women and innocent children cease" and has called "on men and women of all ages so that together we can combat this scourge". Two messages that, together with the memory of the victims of gender violence, have been heard in the manifesto that preceded the citizen march organized on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The march, promoted by the Association of Housewives with the support of the Department of Equality, has closed this Friday the program that has been held throughout the week to commemorate November 25, and in it, they have participated, among others, the mayor, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí; members of the Municipal Corporation and members of the Association of Housewives and other local groups.

In addition to the call for unity to confront gender-based violence, the 25-N manifesto stressed that "we cannot allow anyone to justify behavior that leads to violence, that attacks women, children and It violates human rights in all their extension. And that is why it has been advocated to “stop this violation in all existing modalities, from a small insult, however insignificant it may seem, to the fastest and most virulent attack on social networks.”

After reading the manifesto and observing a minute of silence in memory of the fatal victims of gender violence in 2022 -38 women and three minors-, under the slogan 'Benidorm against gender violence', the march has begun its journey from Plaza SSMM Reyes de España to reach the statue of La Paz, at the junction of Mediterráneo avenues. There, at the foot of the sculpture signed by Juan de Ávalos, a laurel wreath has been placed with the names of all the women who have been murdered this year in Spain by their partners or ex-partners, as well as that of the three minors who have also been fatal victims of that violence.
