Boys and girls who have received their first communion this year accompany the Blessed Sacrament and pray, next to the 'the little Angel', at the three altars of flowers and tapestries

Benidorm brings together families and faithful from all parishes in the traditional Corpus Christi procession

23 June 2025
Corpus Christi

Benidorm once again celebrated its Corpus Christi procession this Sunday, with dozens of children who received their First Communion this year in the city's various parishes participating. The procession departed from Plaza de San Jaime around eight in the evening, travelling along Calle Mayor, Alameda, Passeig de la Carretera, and Santa Faz, before returning to the church.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez; the regional councilor and deputy José Ramón González de Zárate; and other municipal councilors participated in this traditional procession, accompanying the young communicants, the "Blessed Sacrament" carried under a canopy, and the little girl Carmen Guillén Campos, who played the "Angel" last Easter Sunday during "L'Ambaixà." All of this took place under the watchful eyes of family members, neighbours, and tourists who also wanted to follow the procession.

During the procession, traditional stops were made along the route to say prayers and blessings. The first was in front of the altar located in La Palmera, where the ACR (Argentine Catholic Church of La Barqueta) once again created a colourful carpet of flowers and myrtle.

The second stop was on the Paseo de la Carretera, where residents of the Old Town and members of the Sant Jaume i Santa Ana parish created another beautiful altar to receive the Body of Christ and perform adoration.

The last stop was in front of the doors of the Sant Jaume i Santa Anna church, where the prayer was repeated before the eyes of hundreds of residents and visitors before the return of the Blessed Sacrament to the temple. As it passed, the young children who received their First Communion in 2025 threw rose petals at it, leaving a colourful carpet of flowers in its wake.
