Benidorm approves the plan to rehabilitate the municipal tourist office in El Torrejó

Benidorm City Council has begun processing the contract for the renovation of El Torrejó municipal tourist office, following its approval by the Local Governing Board. This project falls under Action 10, Axis 4 of the 2023 Sustainable Tourism Destination Plan (PSTD) ‘Verde Benidorm’, funded by the European Union through Next Generation EU funds.

The bidding process will be conducted through a simplified open procedure with a base budget of €119,630.70 and an estimated completion time of two months, starting from the date of the site handover report. The deadline for submitting bids is April 7th.

This project aims to project a modern image and adapt to the evolving interests of visitors, who are increasingly tech-savvy and focused on sustainability. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, emphasised the "essential role" of tourist offices during tourists' stay in the city and recalled that in 2018, "we received the Tourist Info Network's Innovation Award for having renovated the office with digital information kiosks."

What they now aim to do, Pérez added, is "redesign the office based on criteria of sustainability, proximity to resources, accessibility, and inclusion, thus guaranteeing the experience, functionality, and quality of the products offered in the new tourist office that will be created." The office's proximity to the beach, on the other hand, has contributed to wear and tear on the structural elements and facade cladding due to inclement weather since its opening.

Therefore, the project includes the rehabilitation of structural elements and facade cladding, as well as the renovation of the office "to house the digital technological initiatives that will allow for a more digital user experience." The office will also feature new electrical installations, lighting, wall coverings, and updated signage and equipment.
