Around 540 students use this transport service, of which the City Council subsidizes more than 70%

Benidorm absorbs the increase in the price of school bus tickets to secondary schools so that students continue to pay the same

Benidorm asume el aumento del precio del billete del bus escolar a los IES para que el alumnado siga pagando lo mismo

Benidorm City Council will absorb the increase in the price of school bus tickets for students at the city's Secondary Schools (IES) so that, until the end of the school year, students "continue paying the same amount as before to use this service." This was announced today by the Councillor for Education, Maite Moreno, who explained that with the new urban transport fares set by the Regional Ministry of Education, the ticket price has increased by approximately 40 cents.

Moreno explained that "we considered it appropriate not to pass this increase on to the students and for the City Council itself to cover the difference between the previous and current prices." Thus, "each student will continue to pay €0.54 per trip, while the City Council will cover the remaining €1.31, paying more than 70% of the total ticket price compared to the 66% it covered before the increase."

The Councillor for Education indicated that this measure is estimated to represent “an extra investment of more than €20,000, in addition to the amount already allocated for the period from January to June.” However, the specific and final figure “will be known at the end of the school year, as it will vary depending on the number of trips actually made each month by the approximately 540 secondary, high school, and vocational training students who use the school transport service funded by the City Council.”

Moreno clarified that “due to a computer application error, the transport company has informed us that there may be a few days when students have to pay part of the fare increase, but they have assured us that, should this occur, the situation will be rectified and resolved during this same week.”
