The mayor has shown today his "great satisfaction" for the reopening "which will give comfort to drivers and improve pedestrian safety"

Avenida Beniardá will be definitively open to traffic next Thursday

29 May 2023
Avenida de Beniardá

The Department of Mobility of Benidorm City Council has reported today that the definitive opening of Beniardá Avenue underpass will take place this coming Thursday, June 1, once the relevant works have been completed and that the road was opened last Saturday only for emergency vehicles. Already then it was announced that the full opening would be imminent.

In this way, from Thursday the avenue's underpass, which accounted for the bulk of the works that have been carried out in recent months, will once again be open to all vehicles and traffic will return to normal at one of the main entrances and departures from Benidorm.

For the moment, and waiting for the green light to be given to the definitive opening on Thursday, emergency vehicles such as ambulances, Local Police, National Police or Civil Guard, firefighters, and the like are the only ones authorized to use the underpass.

Avenida Beniardá was closed to traffic on September 15 to begin the work to bury the road, works that, although they have not yet finished, have finished in the most important part, which will allow road traffic to return to normal. Over the next few dates, work will continue on the upper part of the underpass.

The forecast for the reopening of the avenue was established in ten months, just for the start of the high season. However, the efforts made to advance the deadlines have given results and it has been able to open before the end of May for emergency vehicles and on June 1 for the rest.

Meanwhile, the city has responded efficiently to the enormous challenge of canceling one of the main roads in and out of Benidorm, with a daily load of more than 30,000 vehicles.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has expressed today his "great satisfaction" with the reopening of the avenue "which will mean a great advance in vehicle traffic, in comfort for drivers and at the same time in pedestrian safety in the upper part".

In this sense, the mayor has recognized on numerous occasions "the excellent behavior of the drivers who, in a very high percentage, have followed all the recommendations and alternative routes proposed so that the traffic works correctly."

Pérez has highlighted the "great effort" made to reduce the deadlines originally planned, "which spoke of 16 months and which have finally remained just over eight months since that September 15 when it was closed." He also had words "of enormous gratitude" for the residents of the area "who have endured unavoidable inconvenience for a long time, but now enjoy an avenue in keeping with the city of Benidorm, which has solved many mobility problems and which restore peace of mind."
