Around thirty Erasmus+ students delve deeper into the ‘Benidorm model’

06 March 2026
Una treintena de estudiantes del programa Erasmus+ profundizan en el ‘modelo Benidorm’

Nearly thirty Erasmus+ students visited Benidorm City Hall this Friday as part of a project to deepen their knowledge of Benidorm and the sustainable tourism and urban development that characterise the city. Mayor Toni Pérez and Councillor for Education Maite Moreno welcomed the students and teachers in the City Hall's plenary hall, where the mayor answered all the young people's questions about the city and explained the origins of the vertical development model that Benidorm adopted in the 1960s to free up 60% of its municipal area from buildings.

This project, part of the European Erasmus+ program, involves nearly thirty students from three countries: 14 boys and girls from Benidorm, third-year ESO students from Beatriu Fajardo de Mendoza Secondary School; eight from Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria; and six others from the Italian town of Savigliano, along with their teachers.

After a week in the city, the international students will return to their home countries, and later, the Benidorm students will return to visit and explore the other cities with which they participated in the exchange program.
