Anémona's latest solidarity challenge begins: 24 hours rowing to raise funds against breast cancer

Anémona Marina Baixa, the self-help group for women with breast and gynecological cancer in Benidorm and the region, has kicked off its latest sporting and solidarity challenge this Friday. A challenge that requires “demanding effort” and consists of rowing for 24 uninterrupted hours to raise funds against breast cancer and, at the same time, break a world record in this modality. With the collaboration of Benidorm City Council, the Department of Equality, and Benidorm Yacht Club, this “Concept 2 24-hour uninterrupted indoor rowing challenge” was launched at 10 a.m. this Friday in the Plaza de Sus. Majesties the Kings of Spain, under the Town Hall, and will continue until tomorrow, Saturday, at the same time.

The person in charge of inaugurating the challenge has been the president of Anémona, María Botella, who has been joined by different members of the municipal corporation, led by the acting mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí. After them, other women from the group take over and will be the ones who will keep the indoor rowing machines running for a whole day to break the record.

The participants will be twelve women over 50 years of age, all of them breast cancer survivors, who, doing relays of different lengths, will row during these 24 hours to raise funds and allocate them to research. As a starting point, a total of 7,200 euros will be donated to Geicam, the leading breast cancer research group in Spain, five euros for every minute of rowing.

In addition, other contributions are planned to be added to this amount. To this end, at the point where this challenge is being carried out, a 'SOLIDARY ERGO' has been set up, so that anyone who wants to collaborate can come and contribute their little bit of sand, either by rowing or by making a financial donation, which also It will be entirely allocated to research projects on this disease carried out by Geicam.
