31 works, record participation, in the XXII 'Villa de Benidorm' Festive Music Contest

A total of 31 works have been submitted to the contest in the twenty-second edition of the 'Villa de Benidorm' Festive Music Contest, focused this year on the pasodoble modality, and which, as every year, is organized by the Department of Culture. This was announced today by the person in charge of the area, Jaime Jesús Pérez.

The deadline for admission of works closed on July 31, the jury has met, which, in addition to Jaime Jesús Pérez, includes Josep Cano, music teacher; José Vicente Asensi, director of the Superior Conservatory of Music of Alicante 'Óscar Esplá'; Rafel Doménech Pardo, retired music teacher, former director of the Benidorm Musical Union and author of the official hymn of the Festes Majors Patronals 'Fiesta en Benidorm'; and, on behalf of the Association of Moors and Christians of Benidorm, the musician Javier Cidrón.

In this first meeting, the envelopes with the pasodobles were opened and it was verified that the pieces presented met the requirements of the contest which, the councilor recalled, "rewards 2,000 euros and the corresponding trophy for the winner."

The musical creations must be "original and unpublished and not have been previously performed in public." For this reason, the fact that 31 pasodobles have been presented "has surprised us very pleasantly." It shows that the one in Benidorm is "very consolidated in the panorama of festive music contests in our territory", the "great quantity and quality" of our musicians and musical societies, and the importance that music has in all areas, ", especially in the cultural and festive.

Once the works have been evaluated by the jury, "by August 15 at the latest the motto of the winning piece will be announced" which will be "performed for the first time on September 23" before the public, in the Óscar Esplá del Parque auditorium de l'Aiguera. That day "the author and the final name of the work will be announced at a concert by the Unión Musical, a prelude to our Moors and Christians festivities."
