Benidorm to hold its first-ever Cheesecake Contest on October 25
The event, featuring 21 contestants, will include both a professional jury and a public vote, and will take place at l’Hort de Colón
L’Hort de Colón will host Benidorm’s first-ever Cheesecake Contest on Sunday, October 25. The event was presented this morning by Javier Jordá, the city councillor for Commerce, and was the brainchild of Daniel Arango of Gastro Nova and Andrea Brewer, a content creator behind the Afina el paladar channel. The competition is supported by Benidorm City Council, the local traders’ association AICO, and Abreca.
According to the organisers, a total of 21 participants will take part, most of them local restaurants and businesses. “These kinds of competitions energise the business community and help showcase our gastronomy,” Jordá said. He added that standards would be high, as the cheesecakes will be assessed by a professional jury featuring “well-known names in the industry”. The contest will begin at 5 p.m., and admission is open to everyone.
Andrea Brewer revealed that the competition was “something I had wanted to organise for a long time, and when Daniel Arango suggested it, I thought the time was right”. She highlighted the initiative’s “great reception” and described securing 21 participants as a “success”. “Some are established restaurants with a strong reputation, while others are newer businesses,” she explained.
Daniel Arango, meanwhile, stressed that the initiative quickly gained momentum. “It all started taking off very quickly, and by October 1 we were already fully booked. Even today, people are still asking me if they can enter,” he said.
Arango added that the organisers had approached “some very well-known people” to join the judging panel, emphasising their commitment to quality and to “standing out from the crowd”. The judges will assess each cheesecake on creaminess, flavour, texture and presentation. Entries will be scored on a scale of one to five points, including decimal scores, in what Arango described as “a transparent process”.
Gastro Nova is a consultancy and advisory agency specialising in helping restaurants across Spain launch, optimise their operations and scale their businesses from the ground up.
A public jury will also be involved, allowing visitors attending the tasting sessions to rate the cheesecakes and cast their votes in a ballot box.
Jordá encouraged everyone to attend, enjoy the competition and sample the cheesecakes, noting that “cheesecakes are becoming increasingly popular”.
