VOX Benidorm municipal group strongly denounces the City Council's financial bankruptcy, as evidenced by official reports submitted by the Comptroller's Office and the General Secretariat, following the final ruling in the Sierra Helada – APR-7 case, which requires the council to pay more than €340 million, an amount that triples the annual municipal budget.
The ruling has been appealed before the Constitutional Court by Mayor Toni Perez, and each day spent in court costs the people of Benidorm a staggering €26,000 per day.
According to Miguel San Martín, VOX spokesperson in Benidorm, "We have been attentive from the very beginning, in direct contact with both the City Council and the Puchades family. We are thoroughly analysing a large-scale technical and legal case, and we are doing so with the serenity, responsibility, and rigour that this extremely serious situation demands."
VOX emphasises that, unlike the irresponsible behaviour of traditional parties, its commitment is to the residents of Benidorm and not to party interests.
“While the PP and PSOE have signed agreements, voted for and against, and then renewed the same agreements that they now claim are invalid, VOX will act responsibly, without creating noise or seeking headlines, but rather studying and providing real solutions and defending the general interest,” San Martín added.
The situation reflected in the reports is alarming: the municipal treasury is on the brink of collapse, which will directly affect essential public services, municipal jobs, and, above all, the citizens of Benidorm, who will bear the consequences of management for which they are not responsible.
“VOX will always look out for the interests of our residents, and if the time comes to demand financial, legal, or political accountability, no one should doubt that we will do so. Come what may.”
This crisis, VOX denounces, is the direct consequence of decades of mismanagement by the PP and PSOE, whose decisions and omissions have led the City Council to a critical and unsustainable situation. "The irresponsibility of both parties has led Benidorm to ruin, and now the PP, but also the PSOE, must explain why they did not act more than 20 years ago to prevent this problem," the spokesperson concludes.
VOX demands that real solutions be put on the table to protect the citizens of Benidorm. Solutions must be aimed at protecting residents, not at covering up the political responsibility of those who have led us to this ruin.
