Then the program 'Ochéntame' recalls what the city was like in the mid-80's

Radio Televisión Española (RTVE) broadcasts this Thursday in La 1 at 22.45 hours the first of the two chapters of the 18th season of 'Cuéntame' shot in Benidorm. The fiction is set in the summer of 1985. The Alcántara return to Benidorm 16 years later to spend their holidays with Paquita and Miguel and they find a city that has changed a lot.

The filming of chapters 319 and 320 of the series, the longest-running fiction on national television, took place at the end of last October. During a week an artistic and technical team formed by 75 people settled in Benidorm. It was filmed in three locations: Dos Calas Street, Levante Beach and Poniente Beach, at La Cala.

In his 18th season 'Cuéntame' continues unbeatable in the prime time of Thursday, growing week by week. The last chapter, the one broadcast on March 2, gathered in front of the television set 3,248,000 spectators, 18.9% of the audience, being the most watched program of the day. In addition, the series was the most viewed fiction of all the chains during the month of February with a monthly average of 2,986,000 viewers.

But the appearance of the city on the small screen will not be limited this evening to chapter 319 of 'Cuéntame', since then a new program of 'Ochéntame otra vez' will be issued entitled 'Benidorm, Benidorm'. Over 50 minutes, the program takes a tour of the evolution of Benidorm as a tourist city from the late 50's to the 80's, mixing images of the NODO and Informe Semanal with the testimony of people like the singer Carlos Segarra; the former mayor Manuel Catalán Chana; the former director general of the Imserso, Ángel Rodríguez Castedo; the journalist Juan Díaz; the Tour operator Robin Grant; and the retired dressmaker María Teresa Campos.

Impact of shooting

Besides the promotional impact that Benidorm has for being the stage of two chapters of the successful series of La 1, the shooting of the two chapters of 70 minutes each also had its direct impact. Thus, 978 hotel nights were booked in three hotels, 14 contracts were signed with local companies, 130 extras were hired and 31 other people were technicians, props and hairdressers, among others. The local expense incurred in Benidorm in the shooting was about 29,000 euros, according to data provided by Benidorm Film Office, which was responsible for facilitating the work and permission of recording and that worked closely with the production company in charge of the series.
