Cristina Escoda criticizes the mayor's disastrous management for condemning Benidorm and local runners to almost two and a half years without facilities
PSOE denounces the delay in the construction of the new athletics track in Poniente

The Socialist municipal group has denounced the delay in the construction of Benidorm's new athletics track. Socialist spokesperson Cristina Escoda emphasised that the disastrous management of Toni Pérez's government has condemned the city to almost two and a half years without any sports infrastructure of this nature.
Escoda criticised the fact that once the land clearing work was completed on the plot where the future athletics track will be located—a site within the Partial Plan 2/1 Poniente—only weeds and construction materials can now be found. "The company developing this partial plan, which was responsible for extracting 160,000 cubic meters of inert materials to level the ground, is stockpiling various materials in the area that it is using in the building construction it has underway in the sector," she noted. She also emphasised that, with the plot prepared, the next step the government team should have taken is to draft the project to build the new sports infrastructure. According to the initial plan, the track would have included an eight-lane track with stands and all the necessary elements for national and international certification, allowing local runners to train.
The councillor insisted that the suspension of the Poniente athletics track has become one of the most blatant lies and breaches of contract by Toni Pérez's government. Thus, she recalled that the mayor organised a solemn event in February 2022 to announce the new sports track, surrounded by residents and representatives of athletics clubs, assuring them that the completion time was a year and a half and that, therefore, we could enjoy it in the fall of 2023. "Nothing could be further from the truth. Not only have the deadlines not been met, but he also removed the old athletics track from the Guillermo Amor Sports City, leaving athletics fans without facilities to continue training," she stated.
Finally, the spokesperson demanded that the bankrupt mayor, Toni Pérez, stop taking photos and travelling around the province and finally get to work for his city so that the new athletics track becomes a reality as soon as possible and that Benidorm will have sports facilities of these characteristics after several years.
