The mayor closes the XVIII International Tourism Forum, which has addressed the implementation of the concept of smart beaches


The proposals 'Smart Beaches, Smart People' by Joan Aragonés and 'Playas de Benidorm 2.0' by Esmeralda Simarro and Marcos Sanchís have been proclaimed winners of the 7th Pedro Zaragoza Ideas Contest. These awards, endowed with 2,500 euros and 1,500 have been delivered on Friday under the XVIII International Tourism Forum in Benidorm. A forum that closed the mayor, Toni Pérez, and where during two days the concept of smart beaches and its application have been discussed. In the closing ceremony, led by the director of the Chair of Tourist Studies Pedro Zaragoza also participated the general secretary of the University of Alicante (UA), Esther Algarra; and the Regional Secretary of Tourism, Francesc Colomer. After congratulating the winners, the mayor indicated that the forum has served to discuss "what should be the role of institutions and managers in destinations in promoting smart tourism" . A goal that Benidorm has already in " pilot experiences and enjoys free wifi on Levante Beach and the old town. " Pérez said that Benidorm "has an obligation to spearhead" of the debate to "attract talent", and endorsed the "unwavering commitment" of destination "to innovation and competitiveness". He also added that "public-private partnership is essential in the implementation of a 'smart city'"; and he took advantage of the presence of the Regional Secretary of Tourism to "offer our experience to the newly formed Commission about innovation management and smart tourist technologies that the Valencian Community offers. Colomer, meanwhile, stressed that "tourism must walk linked" to innovation and research, with the help of which will ensure that the beaches are "more sustainable, more comfortable, funnier and more inclusive spaces" ; while stressed the importance the Ideas Contest to "attract talents." The general secretary of the AU highlighted the role of the forum as an "space for debate and reflection" and for "innovative ideas" and praised the participation of the Chair of Tourist Studies Pedro Zaragoza in organizing this event organized jointly with Benidorm City Hall and the Agència Valenciana de Turisme. An event in which Visit Benidorm Foundation also has collaborated as well as Hosbec hotel employer.
