The Neighborhood Council approves the Regulations of the Participatory Budget for 2024

07 September 2023
El Consejo Vecinal aprueba el Autorreglamento del Presupuesto Participativo de 2024

Benidorm Neighborhood Council approved the 2024 Participatory Budget Rules this Thursday, in a session that took place in the Plenary Hall of Benidorm City Council and was chaired by the mayor and president of the Council, Toni Pérez. This Regulation was born “with a continuous perspective” concerning the documents that have governed this participatory process in previous years and that now, after obtaining the green light from the Neighborhood Council, will be sent to the plenary session for ratification and final approval.

In this way, the City Council and neighborhood groups take the first step of a process that opens the door for any Benidorm resident to make their contributions and proposals for the city, formally raising them once the established deadline opens, so that they can be evaluated. by the Neighborhood Council and municipal technicians and may be included in next year's Participatory Budgets. The Councilor for Citizenship Participation, Ana Pellicer, recalled that this year, again, “all citizens over 18 years of age will be able to vote on the proposals not only in person but also on the internet, thanks to a subsidy received last year from the Provincial Council and which allowed the creation of a “participatory platform” for this purpose.

One of the objectives pursued with telematic voting is to open neighborhood participation to the youngest “so that they get involved in the improvements they want for their neighborhoods and the city,” said Pellicer.

Likewise, the councilor recalled that Benidorm City Council allocates at least 5% of the annual real investments chapter of the municipal budget each year to meet the final proposals of the Participatory Budget, "although that amount has always been exceeded," she recalled. specified.

The session of the Neighborhood Council held this Thursday has also allowed the City Council and representatives of the different neighborhood associations to share their requests, proposals, and contributions, with the shared objective of improving the services provided, the state of the neighborhoods, and the quality of life of citizens. Thus, topics related to mobility, street furniture, public space, cleanliness, and the state of the beaches have been discussed.

Likewise, the reactivation of the Exemplary Neighbor Award 2023 has been discussed, which is resumed this year after a three-year forced hiatus due to the pandemic. In this way, any person may raise the name of citizens who they consider could be worthy of the award, with the merits that justify it, as long as they are residents registered in Benidorm and whose personal, work, social, and/or humanitarian career can be considered exemplary for citizens. Mayor Toni Pérez has joined the invitation of the Neighborhood Council to participate in this process, whose deadline to present proposals is open until September 30.
